While in school, Blanche studied in Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador. During this time studying abroad, Blanche perfected the native language and continues to be fluent in Spanish. Blanche continues to travel throughout the world for pleasure with her family as well as an instructor and advocate for democracy with the International Republican Institute. In 2001 Judge Fawell traveled to Nigeria to create a political training program for women. In Mexico, Blanche observed elections, trained women to run for political office and taught public-speaking seminars (in Spanish) and in 1998 Blanche monitored the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
